A. Definition of Management
Management comes from the word "to manage"
means set up, administer, or manage. Understanding
management encompasses coordination, sistematy, and intergate - rather than control (controlling) and designation
(directing)
Management is the process of science or art of how to use
resources efficiently, effectively and rationally to achieve organizational
goals previously set. (Swanburg, 2000)
Management as a process of planning, organizing,
coordinating, and controlling resources to achieve the objectives (goals) to
effectively and efficiently. (Ricky
W. Griffin, 2006)
Management in general so as an attempt - an attempt to
achieve the goal yamg done through others.
B.
Understanding Nursing Management
Nursing management is a process of working through
members of the nursing staff to provide care, treatment and support to patients
(Gillies, 1989)
Nursing management is the coordination and integration of
resources through planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and monitoring
to achieve a specific institutional goals and objectives (Huber, 2000).
Management of nursing care is an arrangement of resources
in carrying out nursing activities using the nursing process to meet the needs
of the client or the client solve the problem by linking the management
functions including planning, organizing, directing and controlling. Each
function can not be separated from each other.
Implementation of organizing and implementing the
function of directing, implementing and evaluating control functions. (Keliat, 2000)
The conclusion that nursing management is the process of
working with the coordination of nursing staff members to utilize their
resources, to meet the needs of patients with system planning, organizing,
directing and controlling.
C. Management functions
1.
Planning
(planning)
An
attempt or effort to plan activities that will be implemented to achieve the
goals set and usually take the form of a concept or a program of work.
2.
Organizing
(Organizing)
Activities
that include determination of the structure, dankewajiban tasks, job functions
and relationships between functions
3.
Preparation
of Staff (Staffing)
Included
are employee recruitment, utilization, training, employee education and
development resources effectively.
4.
Directing
(Directing)
Is
the function of giving orders or directions. It
also includes activities of leadership, guidance motivation for employees to
work better and effective.
5.
Pengkoordinsian
(Coordinating)
Is
the function of coordinating the entire work in a totality of the work
organization.
6.
Supervision
(Controling)
This
function provides an assessment, correction of all activities, continuously
monitoring the work being done. Supervision
of the evaluation results be used as recommendations for the next activity. This
function aims to adjust the plan that has been achieved with the implementation
of activities.
D.
Levels of Management
1.
Manager
peak (top manager)
Responsibilities
are to the overall performance and effectiveness of a company. Top
managers to make policy decisions generally applicable strategy to a company

Manger
Secondary (Middle Manager)
Mid-level
managers are among the top manjer and first-line manager. Manager
is in charge of implementing the strategy and policy decisions taken by the
menager peak.
3.
First
Line Manager (First Line)
Manager
is kebaqnyakan supervision or supervision of employees and ensure policy and
strategy decisions taken by top and middle managers have done well
E. Principle - the principle underlying the nursing management are:
1.
Nursing
management should be based on planning for through the planning, leaders can
reduce the risk of decision making, effective problem solving and planning

Nursing
management implemented through effective use of time. Nursing
managers will appreciate the time planning a well-programmed and act in
accordance with a predetermined time.

Nursing

satisfaction is the main point of the whole purpose of nursing.

management should be organized. The
organization conducted in accordance with the needs of the organization to
achieve goals.

Direction
is an element of nursing management activities which include the delegation,
supervision, coordination and control of implementation plans that have been
organized.

A
good nursing division to motivate employees to show good work performance.

Nursing
management Comunication effective use. Effective
communication will reduce misunderstandings and provide commonality of view,
direction and understanding among employees.
9.
Staff
development is important for nurses to be implemented as preparation effort -
executive nurses occupy a higher position or managers attempt to increase the
knowledge of employees.
10. Control is an element of nursing management that includes
an assessment of the implementation plan has been created, giving instruction
and establishes the principle - the principle by setting standards, comparing
performance with standards and correct deficiencies
